I am a top level Japanese to English translator, specializing in technical documents, particularly in patents and technology related to chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and other highly technical fields. I have 25 years of experience.

I am educated in both Japan (BS) and US (Ph.D.) in biological sciences. I worked many years at US pharmaceutical/diagnostic industry. I worked with legal department for translating Japanese patents used for litigation purpose and have patents myself also. I am very familiar with FDA regulation governing the industry to assist Japanese industry for working with US companies.

I am a native English speaker with a Computer Science background. I have seven years experience working in Japan as an intellectual property specialist filing and prosecuting US, EP, and JP patents as well as performing patent portfolio analysis for a Japanese electronic components manufacturer in their Intellectual Property department. I provide chaperoning, consecutive interpretation at invention disclosure and technical meetings as well as patent litigation related depositions.

I am a retired journalist/writer, born and schooled in Japan, but have spent the last 30 years working in the U.S. In the last 10 years, I have been working as interpreter at depositions/trials, performing legal document reviews and translating. My English is near-native level, and I am comfortable working on issues related to intellectual property and patent disputes, antitrust and other business matters.

Born and raised in Japan, completely fluent in Japanese (native speaker level). Previous work experience as a English-Japanese / Japanese-English translator and transcriber in Tokyo. Clients included the government of Japan, Nissan, and the International Water Association.

After receiving a Master Degree in Translation and Interpretation from the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) in May, 2009, I have been working as a freelance translator and interpreter in many fields including politics, economics and medicine.
