For the past 4 years I have worked as an Arabic linguist in the U.S. Air Force. My job consisted primarily of translating and analyzing classified intelligence, while simultaneously enhancing my Arabic skills as a linguist. My career began at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, CA, where I graduated in 2005 after 63 weeks of intense Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) training. My studies began with the most basic elements of Arabic, such as the alphabet, simple words, phrases, and greetings. I have a comprehension of the elements of grammar, sentence structure, as well as vocabulary ranging through all topics including politics, entertainment, science, sports, and military. Eventually, I was trained to a level where I could read Arabic newspapers, watch and translate Arabic news programs and television, as well as carry on a conversation with a native Arab speaker. Comparatively, my 63 weeks of training was more intense than one would receive learning the language through four years of college. Upon graduation, I was in the top 15% of scores on the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) with a 3/3/2 (reading/listening/speaking respectively). Since my graduation from DLI, I have specialized in military intelligence under the supervision of the National Security Agency (NSA). My experience includes training and operations in Iraqi dialect although most of my training has been in MSA. I have taken condensed MSA classes annually to maintain my accomplished level of Arabic, as well as passed and exceeded the average score on the DLPT every year. My current score for the DLPT 5, the newest version of the test, is 2+/3 (reading/listening). This score is among the top 10% of all linguists who have taken the test.

After I got my diploma in teaching English as a second language in 1987, I started my career in teaching and translating until this very day .Between 1986-2001, along with my job as a teacher I also worked as a receptionist in a five-star hotel where I met with people speaking English and Arabic from all over the World. Currently, I am working for St.George Melkite Church in Sacramento, California as a translator, interpreter and teacher of English and Arabic. This church immigrated to America almost 150 years ago from the Holy Land and most of our parishioners come from the Middle East and the Arab World .There is a need to use both languages.
My strengths include being able to work well with a variety of personalities, to converse with anyone, and to enter easily into new situations with a creative and resourceful attitude. In addition, I am very detail oriented, persistent, and punctual and a team player. Prior to this, I was an Interpreter and Translator with Iraqi Council of Representatives (the Iraqi Parliament) in Baghdad from 2010 until 2014. I conducted simultaneous interpretation at local and international conferences, like the Kirkuk Agreement, along with numerous consecutive interpretations for bilateral political meetings between Iraqi MPs and foreign politicians. For instance, during a political delegation to the Philippines in October 2012, mutual meetings took place between the Iraqi side and the Philippine government, and I performed consecutive interpretation for the Philippine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Vice President himself.
I have translated countless documents and contracts including political, legal, scientific, and commercial documents. For example, I translated the Power Plant Construction contract in 2011, and new laws to be enacted and voted for at the Iraqi Parliament-level. I worked with foreign soccer coach contracts for the Iraqi National Soccer Team, along with numerous press articles and research, and ID documentation.

My responsibilities consisted of reviewing the translation of the translated articles, maintaining the web site on a daily basis, and marketing the website in the Arab countries. Furthermore, I worked as an administrative assistant to the head of the Arabic translation Unit at the University of Geneva. My responsibilities included several administrative and research tasks. Moreover, I am currently enrolled in a translation internship at the International Labour Organization until the end of May 2009. I am also a freelance translator for many organizations worldwide.
