I have a vast experience as a translator and consecutive interpreter, especially in diverse technical fields, including car industry, mechanics, electrics, electronics, robotics, software and patents, websites and marketing area (automobile and naval industry, watches, furniture, business, banking), certificates, contracts, patents and tourism and religious subjects.
My technical knowledge comes from my experience as a translator and interpreter on paper and on-site collaborating directly with technicians, and also from my experience as project manager at an Italian company that designs and manufactures welding installations for the automotive industry.Moreover, in my work experience I have developed strong organizatorial and managing skills dealing with customers and suppliers as project manager, besides the self-managing abilities coming from my experience as a freelancer, accompanied by a great attention to details and fast learning skills.
After coming to U.S.A. and doing a number of things, I started working as a per diem court interpreter, (July 1992), in the Nassau County first district court in Hempstead, Long Island.
In time, the occupation that I started as a part time job improved through good service and referrals and became a business. Started working with the Federal Courts in 1994, translated a lot of documents, transcribed and then translated a lot of tapes when I first started. (Recently they turned to CD's.) Today, I am working in all New York and New Jersey State and Federal courts as a per diem interpreter. Also doing written translations, editing, tape transcriptions, simultaneous seminar and deposition interpreting, medical interpreting and medical translations.
I also work as an escort interpreter. I work for private law offices, translation agencies and Government agencies as a freelance independent contractor.
I have a Master's Degree in Linguistics and Translation and have interpreted a lot on scientific conferences during and right after school - total of about 4 years. For the last 4 years though I have been working in medical and legal interpreting (and sometimes translations)mostly doing depositions and hearings in various courts including federal. I am court certified in Washington and Colorado.
Extensive freelance work as translator and interpreter. Translations included laser systems research, technical manuals, biological papers, and aircraft components for the USAF, French, and German Air Force, as well as voice-overs.
I work as a conference interpreter in the US since 1995 in all possible subjects. I work for the Federal Court System and have lot of experience interpreting patent litigations in the US and overseas. Travelling does not pose a problem. I work into and out of English, French, German and Dutch.
I grew up in an international setting in Europe in a bilingual household. Therefore I have become acquainted with several languages, cultures and their respective characteristics. I am willing adapt to set expectations, to travel and to work weekends while delivering accurate translations on or before deadline.
Being Slovene and having studied Slavic Studies and American Studies in Berlin, Germany (B.A., at Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin), I am fluent in written and spoken English, German, Slovene, and Bosnian/ Croatian/ Serbian (former "Serbocroatian"). In addition, I am able to translate and interpret from and into the above listed languages (with Slovene and English as best target languages), can proofread texts written in Slovene, teach English (as a foreign language), and am familiar with the histories and cultures of the USA, Germany, Middle Europe, and of the Balkans (I also lived in all of these areas for extended periods of time).
During the past twenty years as a translator, interpreter, proofreader and voice over specialist,I have worked on many different projects. Therefore I have experience in a variety of fields. I am available on short notice.
