I am a conference interpreter working from Spanish, French, and German into English, as well as from English into Spanish. My practice covers consecutive and simultaneous modes across on-site, telephone, and video remote settings. I bring deep subject-matter fluency to technical and professional dialogues in biology, chemistry, genetics, physics, optics, and mechanical or electrical engineering. I also interpret regularly for legal proceedings, patent discussions, financial meetings, pharmaceutical research, and corporate strategy sessions within the consumer electronics, gaming, telecommunications, and energy sectors. My background includes extensive booth experience in European Union, United Nations, and international business contexts, where precise terminology and cultural nuance are critical. I hold a Master's degree in Conference Interpreting and have completed advanced public service interpreter training. Whether facilitating high-level managerial conferences or conducting sight translation of complex biomedical and industrial texts, I focus on delivering clear, accurate, and context-aware communication.
After coming to U.S.A. and doing a number of things, I started working as a per diem court interpreter, (July 1992), in the Nassau County first district court in Hempstead, Long Island.
In time, the occupation that I started as a part time job improved through good service and referrals and became a business. Started working with the Federal Courts in 1994, translated a lot of documents, transcribed and then translated a lot of tapes when I first started. (Recently they turned to CD's.) Today, I am working in all New York and New Jersey State and Federal courts as a per diem interpreter. Also doing written translations, editing, tape transcriptions, simultaneous seminar and deposition interpreting, medical interpreting and medical translations.
I also work as an escort interpreter. I work for private law offices, translation agencies and Government agencies as a freelance independent contractor.
I work as a conference interpreter in the US since 1995 in all possible subjects. I work for the Federal Court System and have lot of experience interpreting patent litigations in the US and overseas. Travelling does not pose a problem. I work into and out of English, French, German and Dutch.
I grew up in an international setting in Europe in a bilingual household. Therefore I have become acquainted with several languages, cultures and their respective characteristics. I am willing adapt to set expectations, to travel and to work weekends while delivering accurate translations on or before deadline.
Being Slovene and having studied Slavic Studies and American Studies in Berlin, Germany (B.A., at Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin), I am fluent in written and spoken English, German, Slovene, and Bosnian/ Croatian/ Serbian (former "Serbocroatian"). In addition, I am able to translate and interpret from and into the above listed languages (with Slovene and English as best target languages), can proofread texts written in Slovene, teach English (as a foreign language), and am familiar with the histories and cultures of the USA, Germany, Middle Europe, and of the Balkans (I also lived in all of these areas for extended periods of time).
I can simultaneously interpret from any of the known languages into German, English, and Farsi.
Translations can be done from any other languages into English and German.
My experience includes 4 years living in Croatia, where, as the translation and interpretation coordinator for the European Community Monitor Mission, my responsibilities included translating a wide variety of general and specialized texts from Croatian into English and vice-versa, consecutive and escort interpreting, managing a 10-member translation team, editing, and proofreading. In addition, I developed and implemented interpreter role-play training scenarios and tested and trained all interpreter and translator candidates for the ECMM’s large roster of freelancers.
I have also lived in Germany and studied business and economics (in German) as well as German language at the University of Kiel. As in-house technical documentation staff for a German-owned US company for 10 years, I have extensive experience translating technical specifications, operations manuals and research reports relating to industrial equipment, as well as advertising materials, financial and legal documents, and news articles.
During the past twenty years as a translator, interpreter, proofreader and voice over specialist,I have worked on many different projects. Therefore I have experience in a variety of fields. I am available on short notice.
